Learning Lab Collections Screener
OVERVIEW:
Do you have an interest in helping to make the Smithsonian LEARNING LAB an education tool used by every teacher in America? Volunteer to screen user-created collections, to make sure they are appropriate for children in school settings.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Remote (virtual screeners) volunteers perform the following:
- Access collections for review as they are presented in a Google sheet
- Review collections for adherence to guidelines in a Smithsonian-provided rubric
- Within a Google sheet, flag collections of concern, providing notes
The ideal candidate will love learning and be interested in the application of technology to education.
- Ideal screeners are retired teachers, pre-service teachers, and museum education graduate students
- Screeners should have an interest in education, schools, students, teachers, and making Smithsonian collections accessible
- Screeners must be 21 years or older
- Have a home computer and internet access
- Have a Gmail address
- Spanish-language and other non-English speakers are welcome for screening multi-lingual collections
LOCATION: This is a VIRTUAL opportunity which takes place remotely, over the internet, at your home and on your computer
TO BE SELECTED:
Complete this online application and upload resume
Complete an in-person or remote interview
Make a User Account in the Learning Lab and create and publish 1 collection
Pass a federal government background check for low risk conducted through the Smithsonian Office of Protection Services
Read and sign Smithsonian Directive 208 Appendix B
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of a 1-year commitment
- 2 days per week
- Volunteers check the Google sheet once per day on their scheduled day(s)
- Site review may take 5 minutes or up to one hour based upon the volume and length of submissions
TRAINING:
- Online training in the Learning Lab is available https://learninglab.si.edu/q/ll-c/MqxAREE6nxUTPagu and all candidates will be provided with a screening rubric, as well as 1:1 coaching through email or phone
- MUST complete a yearly ISAT (online security awareness training)
