Do you want to be a part of current conversations about public health and preventing epidemics?

Volunteer in Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World and help visitors understand how viruses such as Ebola, Zika, and Influenza reveal an intricate connection between humans, animals, and their environments. Learn to facilitate conversations on challenging topics and engage in fact-based discussions with visitors about their role in prevention.

Combine your interest in infectious disease outbreaks with expert-led training to increase visitor awareness of global health and efforts to predict, respond, and stop epidemics.


Looking for WEEKDAY availability only- 9:45am-1:45pm OR 1:15pm-5:15pm Monday-Friday.


What does volunteering require?

  • 18 or older
  • Attend all day training sessions: Saturday, March 28, Sunday, March 29 and Sunday, April 4th, 10am-5pm
  • Complete 10 hours of online training
  • Complete 1 shadow shift in exhibition
  • At least a 1 year commitment at 8 hours per month
  • Complete a Smithsonian Background check
  • Attend Volunteer Orientation on: Sunday, April 5 or Sunday, May 3
