Help young children learn about air and space by volunteering with Flights of Fancy Story Time!

Washington, DC.NASM: Air and Space Museum - Mall

We are seeking volunteers to inspire wonder in young children and their caregivers by helping with our Flights of Fancy Story Time at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. You must enjoy working with young children and their families. This program is an inter-generational learning opportunity for families to come together, enjoy their time in the National Air and Space Museum and learn about the stories of the objects in our collection and the people associated with them.

Each Flights of Fancy Story Time includes play time, an interactive reading of a children's book related to aircraft or space, and a follow up activity designed to get everyone playing together and to give the family something to take home with them and continue the fun and learning.

Volunteers help set up and clean up the program including carrying and placing signs, carpets, and other materials for the program. Volunteers recruit families from the Museum guests and distribute information about logistics for the program in the Museum. Volunteers engage with families and young children during the program and assist with craft activities, dress up, dramatic play, creative, and constructive play. Volunteers collect and record attendance (and other) data. Seasoned volunteers may read the story and lead the program.

Previous storytelling experience is not required. We will teach you how to use props and engage in dramatic play and movement.

Volunteers are needed weekday mornings, and Saturday mornings and afternoons. You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.
