Welcome visitors as a Museum Ambassador with the National Museum of American History!

National Museum of American History Museum Ambassador


Each year our Museum Ambassadors help over 100,000 people get the most out of their visits to the National Museum of American History. Museum Ambassadors welcome groups, circulate throughout the Museum's public zones to answer basic questions, and direct visitors to programs and exhibitions of interest. The Museum has employed the Ambassador corps to assist with special projects and events as needed which has expanded the role of these volunteers and grown the program. This program has a flexible sign-up system that can fit with any scheduling need.

  • Interacting with diverse audiences, age groups and learning styles.
  • Working in an often busy and changing environment.


If you have . . .


  • An interest in talking with diverse audiences and age groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An interest in American History


If you can . . .


  • Commit to a regular 2.5-hour shift once a week (weekday ambassadors) or twice a month (weekend ambassadors), including weekends and holidays.
  • Handle frequent walking, standing, and talking.


Training


New Volunteers must complete the following trainings:


  • 1 in-person training on Sunday, November 12 from 10am - 4pm at the museum
  • 1 shadow shift with a current Museum Ambassador
  • A scavenger hunt building orientation


After completing these training requirements volunteers will be able to sign up for shifts.

All applicants must be 18+ to apply and be able to commit to at least one year of service.


NOTE: Acceptance into the program is extended after an interview process and is subject to successful completion of a background investigation.
