Call Center Volunteer

Smithsonian call center volunteer

Smithsonian Call Center Volunteers engage and inspire visitors over the phone. Over 40,000 people connected to the Smithsonian through the main information line in 2017. Call Center volunteers are tech-savvy museum goers who love planning memorable experiences for our global visitors. Call Center Volunteers also assist the Office of Visitor Services staff with various projects related to visitor engagement.

Please note, the work area is not wheelchair accessible and can only be accessed by stairs.


REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILIITIES:

This position requires individuals to have outstanding computer skills in using web-based resources, excellent customer service skills, an enthusiastic and friendly demeanor, the ability to work with diverse people, fantastic listening skills, a clear speaking style on the telephone, and English fluency (second language speakers are welcome and encouraged to apply).


All applicants must be 18 years or older and be cleared in a federal background check. Applicants are also be required to complete a computer assessment.


SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be able to volunteer for a minimum of one year during a weekly shift that is four hours in length.


TRAINING:

The training program consists of a pre-training reading, 1 day of in-person classroom training on Saturday, May 4, 2019 and on-the-job training including self-guided museum and gallery tours.
