Instructions

It is mandatory for all Smithsonian Volunteers to be registered in VSys, our volunteer management database. We use Vsys to track information such as hours, contact info, and badge expirations, and volunteers use Vsys to sign up for opportunities/shifts they want.

Discovery Station Program

Overview:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to facilitate Discovery Stations, interpretative activities located around the museum for visitors of all ages. Volunteers engage visitors in hands-on exploration of artifacts and teaching materials related to everything from the history of air travel to black holes. Discovery Stations give you the opportunity to practice informal education skills, brush up your knowledge on various topics, and meet our visitors one on one or in small groups.

Required Skills & Abilities:

You must be 16 years old to volunteer.

Scheduling Requirements:

Minimum of one-year commitment, with a 4 hour minimum per month.

Training:

We will train you on both facilitation strategies for the station and necessary background information.
